About Me

My Photo
Name: Tim G. Ruffin
Location: Philadelphia, PA, United States

Hi. Thanks for stopping by. My name is Tim Ruffin. I'm a native Philadelphian, fascinated by American urban culture. I'm fascinated by hues of color, loose forms, and the manipulation of color. I am inspired by both the beautiful and ugly sides of America. Sadness, tragedy, and pain have been used as fuel to produce work. In the same way, the simple joy of the vision of autumn leaves, or a kid riding his bike, or the company of good people also present a source of inspiration. I have profound respect those that have come before me and certainly influenced my own work. I'm not one of those artists who thinks it robbery to pay hommage to his heroes. Mine include such legends as Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Cy Twombly (who's work always evokes a distinctly emotional response from me everytime I see it.) Jean Michel Basquiat, Vincent Van Gogh, and Henri Matisse amongst others. I'm also very much inspired by my own younger brother Andrew Ruffin, who is an artistic genius in his own right. If you are interested in purchasing artwork displayed here, or discussing a commissioned piece you can contact me via email at timgruff@yahoo.com.
